As I prepare for the opening of bear season in Arizona, I have been analyzing (some say over-analyzing) a few trail-camera pictures. I have a few Cuddeback cameras out scouting for me 24/7.
On June 29th, at exactly 7:13 PM my Cuddeback took the following picture.
Exactly two weeks (to the day) later, on 7/13 my Cuddeback caught the same bear at 7:13 AM.
After my analyzation, I can only come to one of two conclusions.
- The bear will return every two weeks, and will be present four weeks from the time of the last picture taken, which will be August 10th (during the bear hunt in this unit). Furthermore, I must assume that since the bear alternates morning and evening, but shows up at exactly 7:13 that the bear will be there on that date in the morning at 7:13 AM. So, I can rise early have some breakfast, and then travel to a likely spot overlooking the canyon as long as I arrive by 7:00 AM or so, and harvest the bear.
- The bear will show up in August on 8/14 (during the bear hunt in this unit) at 8:14 AM or 8:14 PM. Again, I can travel at a leisurely pace to the hunting area in the morning and harvest the bear or in the worst go home take a nap, enjoy dinner, and return right before dark to harvest the bear.
So, using my “bear logic” I only have to show up three different times for a total of three minutes to harvest a bear this year. This bear hunting is easy stuff!
I will keep you posted on my “bear logic” and successes.
